Walk/Run/Roll in Lauren’s Shoes 5K & 1 Mile Honorary CP Walk
The 6th Annual Walk/Run/Roll in Lauren’s Shoes 5K & 1 Mile Honorary CP Walk will be held on Sunday, June 9, at Wilkeson Pointe.
The event benefits The Make Lemon Aide Foundation for Cerebral Palsy (CP), a nonprofit foundation that was inspired by Lauren Walier, a young woman living with CP. The foundation was established in 2013 and focuses on three goals: raising CP awareness, training CP therapists and funding research.
Cerebral palsy, commonly known as CP, is a medical condition that affects a person's ability to move and control their body. CP is caused by a brain injury or abnormal development of the brain - usually while the brain is still developing before childbirth, or shortly after.
Individuals of all abilities are invited to participate in the Walk/Run/Roll, including those with wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers. For a unique twist, you can choose to wear ankle weights to simulate what it may be like for someone living with cerebral palsy (CP).
Early packet pickup will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Wilkeson Pointe in front of the Longboards Paddle Co., located at the Outer Harbor Buffalo, 225 Fuhrmann Blvd.
Race day registration and packet pickup for The Walk/Run/Roll in Lauren’s Shoes event will begin at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 9. Online registration is also available here: https://register.primoevents.com/ps/event/WalkRunRollinLaurensShoes5K1MileHonoraryCPWalk.
The CP pinning ceremony will take place at 9:45 a.m. The 1 mile walk starts at 10 a.m., the 5K run starts at 11 a.m., and the 5K awards and top fundraisers will be announced at 12:30 p.m. The 5K course is certified by USA Track & Field.
